Partnership addresses healthcare disparities by expanding behavioral health services and physician training to pediatric clinics across Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. & SAN DIEGO, Calif. – March 21, 2021 – Concert Health, a leading behavioral health medical group, today announced a partnership with Paving the Way Multi Service Institute (PTWMSI), a Free Standing Behavioral Health Clinic committed to providing evidence-based behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families living in the District of Columbia. Together, Concert Health and PTWMSI are providing primary care providers with cutting edge research and resources to address and treat behavioral health within primary care.

Located in one of the hardest to serve areas of D.C., Paving the Way was founded to address healthcare disparities – ensuring equitable service delivery across the district. Paving the Way supports primary care providers with the integration of behavioral health services, providing them with licensed clinicians who work in collaboration with patients providing evidence based care and treatment. The Institute now provides online telehealth services to meet patients’ behavioral health needs, which have been instrumental in expanding healthcare access to underserved communities. To date, Paving the Way has served over 2500 patients across D.C.

“Our goal is to enable our patients to establish a mental balance that will allow them to live and achieve a successful life for themselves and their family,” said Ms. Paulette Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Paving the Way MSI. “We’re excited to partner with Concert as we equip primary care providers with outcomes-based practices, and ultimately, increase trust between providers and the community.”

The need for high-quality behavioral health services has never been more critical in pediatric care/environments, with depression and anxiety disorders increasing over time in children and adolescents.1 Through an initiative called The District of Columbia Mental Health Access in Pediatrics (DC MAP), PTWMSI and Concert are supporting pediatric healthcare providers in addressing behavioral health challenges, ensuring that they have access to a team of psychiatrists, social workers, and care coordination, as well as the latest behavioral health integration research.

“Many pediatricians feel ill-equipped to provide behavioral health treatment or manage chronic behavioral health conditions, despite being positioned to do so,” said Virna Little, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Concert Health. “We’re proud to partner with Paving the Way to provide pediatricians with a higher level of behavioral health understanding and ensure that they have the proper resources and training to address these needs within primary care.”
